Review Ride on Dreadlocks 1975-1977 / Linval Thompson:Linval Thompson is a reggae singer with a firmly conscious lyrical bent and a sweet, supple voice, showcased here on another of Blood and Fire's re-mastered labours of love. Some of the tracks on Ride on Dreadlocks were transferred from rare vinyl copies; all but three were produced by dancehall king Bunny Lee; all are extended versions with dub cuts following the fade after the two- or three-minute single versions. This is principally anthemic, rallying stuff, with Lee¹s trademark powerful one-drop and trebly hi hats throughout. Highlights are the stirring "Jah Jah the Conqueror", Ride on Dreadlocks, with the immortal line "Babylon is a wicked man, Babylon is a bald head", and the poignant "Jah Jah is I Guiding Star". The message is righteous and the arrangements (riddims) tend to the musical, head-nodding school rather than the ferociously militant. -Neil Bennun.
