With a production sound firmly rooted in club culture (Faithless ringleader Rollo was responsible for Felix's dancefloor anthem "Don't You Want Me" and co-conspirator Sister Bliss can claim to be the world's most successful female DJ), Reverence allies house beats with shades of hip hop, blues, reggae and soul. The majority of the tracks are infused with the rhymes of Buddhist rapper Maxi Jazz, often elegant, sometimes incongruous but always distinctive. The album's breadth of ambition sometimes means Faithless spread themselves too thinly: witness the mediocre acoustic pop of "Don't Leave" and the clicheed sensuality of "If Lovin' You Is Wrong". The band are at their most memorable on the tracks which worked so well on the dancefloor: the housey hi-hats, urgent synths and insistent beats of "Salva Mea" and "Insomnia" will be recalled fondly by many a clubber. -Ed Potton.

This is the 11th in the successful Progressive Euphoria series and follows hot on the heels of Dave Pearce's recent outing. John "00" Fleming is one of the prog scene's foremost exponents and, despite his often cringeworthy statements in the liner notes ("this music is more intelligent and some of the string arrangements have often compared to such all-time great composers as Mozart!" etc. etc. ), has come up with a worthy mix album of the latest progressive stormers. Eschewing anything too dark or hard ("those tracks are best experienced in a club. "), the DJ takes us through a variety of tracks that show almost all sides of the progressive phenomenon. Cevin Fisher and Shelia Smith's soulful "Love You Some More" (Moogwai mix) sit next to classics such as Sander Kleinenberg's "Venus and Mars", Storm's "Time to Burn" (Pascal FEOS mix) and Astral Projection's rare mix of Faithless' "God is a DJ" monster. And there are more obscure but good choices such Three Drive's "Sunset on Ibiza" and Roland Klinkenberg's "Inner Laugh". [+]
