Review Victoria Beckham / Victoria Beckham:Mrs Beckham completes the set of solo Spice Girls albums with her self-titled debut, Victoria Beckham. Leading off with the first single and meatiest song on the album "Not Such an Innocent Girl", the 12 tracks breeze through a number of different styles with varying degrees of success. You can hear Victoria's voice adapt to suit the song, not quite finding a style of her own but still sounding far better than many critics could have imagined. "A Mind of It's Own" is very pleasant, inoffensive pop where VB sounds little like former band mate Geri in a whisperey, half-sung, half-spoken kind of way. Another song where her voice and style morph into that of a different pop peer is on "I. O. U. ", a sweet ballad which sounds a little like a find on the studio floor during Madonna's Ray of Light sessions. It's unlikely that Victoria will win any new fans with this effort as there are no songs to stand out and wrestle for attention but aside from over-using the dreaded vo-coder, it is easily a pleasant enough, inoffensive pop record. -Georgina Collins.

The album's non-chronological sequence highlights the contradictory impulses that made Tupac's music so commanding. The 21 well-loved "hits" some slightly re-edited for legal reasons, are accompanied by four previously unheard songs. Of the new material, the raw-sounding "God Bless the Dead" has been the subject of the most speculation, owing to its subject matter: a eulogising of the late Notorious B. I. G. -a mysterious feat, since Tupac was killed six months before Biggie. Review Thunder, Lightning Strike / The Go! Team:The Go! Team's piecemeal approach to music-making and their zest for block-rocking party sounds makes for an interesting sonic jumble. This re-release of Thunder, Lightning, Strike, their 2004 debut album, features several modifications from its original incarnation due to US licensing laws (a new verse from MC Ninja and two new tracks), but the changes are largely cosmetic: the album remains a belligerent brew of guitars, drums, old-school hip-hop, rock, harmonicas, banjos, flutes, rhymes and cheerleader-chants that illustrates the band's famous anything-goes attitude. From the audacious assault of pop-tastic tracks like "Panther Dash" and the cartoonish rumble of "Feelgood By Numbers" to the jump-around anthem "Get It Together", the incessant - and sometimes overwhelming - joie-de-vivre of the document remains unrivalled by anything their contemporaries has produced in the meantime. -Paul Sullivan.

Review Some Things / Lasgo:The global success of Belgium's Euro-pop artists Ian Van Dahl and Milk Inc, and the continued Belgium adoration of Kim Wilde, explains a lot about the style of Some Things. Like their peers, as well as Lasgo having the knack to produce addictive pop cuts, lead singer Evi has a strikingly similar voice to Wilde's, with the synth sound of the album drawing heavily on Kim's 1984 LP "Teases and Dares". Other 80s stars who also liked tinkering with their Roland's are subtly quoted on the album too, for instance the Thompson Twins ("Follow You"), Depeche Mode ("Blue") and A-Ha ("Cloud Surfers"). While Evi provides the vocals to the majority of the tracks, fellow group member David takes the lead on "Cry" and "Don't Belong To You". There are two instrumentals as well, the Giorgio Moroder inspired opener "Intro", and the "Take on Me"-with-added-bagpipes track, "Cloud Surfers". While no Euro-pop artist to date has ever been able to come up with anything more than catchy cheese for lyrics, the excellent keyboards successfully distract you away from the traditionally mindless verse. More poppier and a lot less pretentious than the work of other 80s electronica impressionists such as Fischerspooner, Some Things is one of those rare, half-decent Euro-pop albums. -John Galilee.
