The first CD concerns itself with the filling of the dance floor, the rising filters of Hustle Espanol providing the analogy-grinding away at the bassline with squealing keyboard lines and clattering Latin percussion before setting the stage for the second disc of rippling dance-floor bangers with Farley and Heller's Mark Anthoni's "If You Should Need A Friend". Sheffield superclub Gatecrasher has long been a byword for quality, its name synonymous with energetic mix CDs that consistently bring trance to the masses. Now, in an act of unbridled generosity, Gatecrasher Experience reveals three different sides of the club's personality. CD1, "The Science", features a number of exclusive tracks, including classics remixed for a new generation. Most interesting of these is the unlikely reworking of Sinead O'Connor's "Troy" from producer of the moment, Push, plus a great version of The Police's 1970s hit, "Message In Bottle". Less poppy perhaps, CD2, "The Power" unleashes the harder side of the Gatecrasher sound and features clubland rockets such as Nu-NRG's "Dreamland", John 00 Fleming's breathtaking "Nazerian" and Maurio Piccotto's relentless trance anthem, "Bangkok". After all that exertion it seems only fitting that CD3, "The Karma", should round things off in more relaxing style. Here you'll find lush, ambient versions of Evoke's haunting "Arms Of Lauren", Arcadia's "Blind Visions" and 'Crasher classic, "The Eternal" from Jose Amnesia. Since its foundation in the early Nineties, Liverpool's Cream has gone from strength to strength, joining Manchester's Hacienda and London's Ministry Of Sound as one of the most religiously-attended clubs of the post-Acid House era. This double CD showcases some of the tunes to have rocked its infamously enthusiastic crowd, as picked by two of its most popular DJ's, Seb Fontaine and Tall Paul. Both opt for Cream's trademark mixture of pumping, vocal-led house and shimmering, euphoric trance, combining recent dancefloor smashes with a few well-loved favourites. Tall Paul's selection is the bouncier, melding his own "Let Me Show You" with Westbam's classic "Wizards Of The Sonic". Fontaine meanwhile, segues the funky (Danny Tenaglia's gospel-tinged "Music Is The Answer") with the frenetic (Binary Finary's "1998"). All in all, a worthy testament to the high and even higher points of a superclub which has become a national institution. -Ed Potton.
