Fortunately, this is not necessarily a bad thing, as the upper ranges of the pop charts frequently find themselves invaded by the world of R&B. And so, Disc One of Street Vibes Volume 5 is packed with crossover classics by artists such as Jamelia ("Money"), Pink ("There You Go"), Angie Stone ("Life Story") and TLC ("No Scrubs"). Review Serve Chilled Vol.3 / Various Artists:The third in the well respected Serve Chilled series makes a notable stylistic shift from its predecessors with a heavy Balearic leaning, presumably a result of compiler Mark Doyle making his selection in warmer climes. This change of emphasis also extends to the running order, where the focus concerns itself more with flow as opposed to prior selections, which were built up from a foundation of music that literally leapt from the track listing. That said, those already familiar with Hed Kandi outings won' t be disappointed with a consistent quality throughout both two compact discs-highlights of which take the form of Rae and Christian's late-night easy listening "Not Just Anybody" and Nottingham's superb Fug, who offer up the title track from their superb album Ready for Us. -Kingsley Marshall.

Review Global Underground: Lee Burridge - Nu Breed 5 / Lee Burridge (Mixed By):Global Underground's Nu Breed series is intended to showcase the mixing skills and musical taste of DJs who are on the verge of breaking into the world of turntable superstars. Following in the footsteps of Sander Kleinenberg, Anthony Pappa, Steve Lawler and Danny Howells, this fifth album in the series takes a closer look at the bald-headed deck phenomenon that is Lee Burridge. Along with Sasha and Craig Richards, Burridge is responsible for running the very successful Tyrant nights at London's Fabric and at Nottingham club The Bomb. The nights have built Burridge a solid following and this double CD package aims to explore why. Opening his set with the epic Marshall Jefferson tune "Mushrooms", Burridge takes us through tasty, fruggable fare from the likes of Mood 2 Swing ("The Slippery Track"), deep and dark throbs courtesy of Photek ("Glamoura ma"), feisty breaks moves from BLIM and Chris Carter ("Check It Out") plus plenty more moments of bounce and groove. Disc two is a bit more new-age with Deep Forest's "Sweet Lullaby", "Sadness" by Enigma and "Silence" by Delerium but there are some genuinely beautiful pieces from the likes of Morricone ("Chi Mai") and Robin Young-Smith ("Flower Duet") which sit more than comfortably with their downbeat dance cousins. -Georgina Collins.
