Review Peace Orchestra [VINYL] / Peace Orchestra:Austrian DJ Peter Kruder is best known for his production work with studio partner Richard Dorfmeister. Together they have turned tracks by Madonna, Depeche Mode, Roni Size and Bomb The Bass into stoned chill-out classics. Peace Orchestra is Kruder's first full-length solo exploration of this trademark dubby, down-tempo sound. Each track is a delicately crafted mixture of jazzy percussion, deep bass, jaunty horns and mellow ambience. "Double Drums" drops a funky trumpet sample over a chunky, danceable groove, while "Domination" is a sleepy mix of wind noises, ambient melodies and jazzy breakbeats. Some tracks-such as the live breakbeat jam "Mesiter Petz"-is Kruder's take on pitch shuffling, bossa beats in revolt against exotic instrumentation and subtle synth melodies. Peace Orchestrahas a great dimly lit, late night vibe that makes it a near-perfect chill out album. Matt Anniss.

Review The Classical Chillout Album / Various Artists:Did you always want to know what that nice TV music was and whom it was by? Filled with classics that will ease away the worries of the working day, The Classical Chillout Album contains many favourites that have been rediscovered by TV or cinema-the British Airways advert, the BBC World Cup theme and Hovis bread for example. Yet there is much more to discover-operatic gems such as Puccini's "Humming Chorus" from Madama Butterfly, familiar orchestral movements such as Dvorák's "New World" Symphony and uplifting solos pieces such as Satie's Gymnopédie No. 1. There are also some unfamiliar titles such as McDowall's "To a Wild Rose" and Delius's "On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring". The playing is adequate without being exceptional and the recording quality is comparable. With 40 tracks these two discs offer value for money and, as a way of introducing people to these works, what could be better?-Dominic Sewell.
