Review Subliminal Sessions Vol.3: Mixed By Erick Morillo / Erick Morillo:Once described as the "gadfly" of DJs, Morillo is a true clubworld chameleon, working under a slew of pseudonyms (Lil' Mo Ying Yang and RBM among them) while re-mixing everyone from Basement Jaxx to Enrique Iglesias. With all his personas in tow, as well as a reputation for sweating up dancefloors from Ibiza to Indiana, Morillo is just about worth this gargantuan three-disc house-trance marathon. Swift of hand and stuffed full of tricks, Morillo effortlessly provides a coat of funky warmth that lavishly covers the entire collection. But the secret ingredient, the one that lifts Subliminal Sessions Vol 3 above its immediate house-trance peers, is Morillo's indulgent, malevolent, leering, hedonism. Indeed, when he drops Adam Beyer's sci-fi apocalypse "Remainings 3" then upshifts to the filthy, funk-laced "Glitterball" by FC Kahuna, it's obvious this boy knows about nasty fun. -Steffan Chirazi.

Review The Death of Quickspace / Quickspace:Minor key melodic magic; heartache fused to tinny Space Age synthesisers; engorged male/female vocal interplay; words that mirror main man Tom Cullinan's warped love for Camden and the occasional drink; guitar dissonance; energy; trembling little runs on the fretboard; songs that recall Van Morrison and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci simultaneously ("Gloriana"); theremins used not just as a novelty item ("They Shoot Horse Don't They"); violins soaring and wailing in glorious harmony; a box full of musical misadventures and inverted instruments; songs that even Supergrass might do their brothers in for ("A Rose"); spirit, life, fun. Just another album from Quickspace, then. Cullinan was formerly in early Creation garage/psychobilly band the X-Men and ace London guitar terrorists Th' Faith Healers-both fine outfits-but The Death Of Quickspace is possibly his finest work yet.
